About Us

Wessex Inc was formed in 1999 to commercialize technology. Various technologies were reviewed by our technical team to evaluate commercial viability. In 1994 NASA invented Protective Ceramic Coating (PCC) to be used as the heat shield for the X33 and X-34 Space Plane Program. Often, NASA makes technologies available for license to the private sector. Wessex Inc obtained an exclusive license for PCC from NASA
in 2001.

The PCC technology, while sufficient for NASA research purposes, was not commercially viable. Wessex Inc spent three years modifying the PCC composition and binder systems to create the Emisshield® Products. There are currently four Emisshield® Products for Ceramic/Refractory Substrates and four Emisshield® Products for Metal Substrates. Wessex Inc has obtained two US Patents and has other International Patents Pending for their Products. Wessex Inc continues to develop the Emisshield® Products creating coatings with different formulations, operating temperatures and performance capabilities.

The Emisshield® Products for Ceramic/Refractory materials provide energy savings, increase production and prolong substrate life at temperatures up to and above 3000°F.  The Emisshield® Products for Metal substrates provide corrosion protection and erosion control, reduce oxidation and prevent warping, all at temperatures up to and over 3000°F.

Emisshield® Products are Energy Enhancing Systems that are sold to the following industries: Iron and Steel, Face Brick, Refractory, Whiteware, Tableware and Ornamental Ware, Power Generation, Structural Clay, and Petrochemical.  Energy Savings, Production Increases, Prolonged Substrate Life, and Reduced Oxidation have been achieved in all industries.
